VPS for WordPress: Resources, Updates and Backups

We earn commissions when you shop through the links below. It never changes the order of plans. How this works

A WordPress VPS is a server you operate unless the offer explicitly includes administration. Start with a workload-aware profile, then check what the provider actually manages.

Start with a profile, not a performance promise

Find Your Fit uses an editorial WordPress starting point of 2 GiB RAM, 1 vCPU and 20 GiB storage. It is a convenient starting profile, not a minimum that fits every WordPress site and not a benchmark or capacity guarantee. Plugins, traffic concurrency, page caching, media, database size, PHP workers and growth all change the resource need. Choose whether those values are just notes or confirmed filters; the assistant leaves them unfiltered until you explicitly confirm.

What you administer on a self-managed VPS

Expect to secure SSH and user accounts, patch the guest operating system and application stack, set firewall rules, monitor the site and database, and respond to incidents. WordPress core, themes and plugins need their own update and recovery process. The provider’s infrastructure support does not automatically mean it maintains your WordPress installation.

Backups need a restore plan

Check the backup schedule, retention, storage or percentage charge, and whether databases and uploads are included. Keep a recovery copy outside the VPS when appropriate, and test restoring files and a database before relying on the feature. A snapshot is not automatically the same thing as an application-consistent backup.

Managed hosting changes the work boundary

Managed VPS administration varies by product. Confirm which operating-system updates, monitoring, incident response, backups and application tasks are actually included, and what remains yours. A managed WordPress platform may limit root access or supported server configuration; do not assume it is interchangeable with a root-access VPS.

Choose the administration model you can support

If you want root access and can maintain Linux, compare self-managed plans and include your own time in the decision. If you do not have an operator, compare the documented managed scope and the total cash price. Beginner experience alone does not prove that a managed product is necessary, and a “managed” label alone does not prove that WordPress application work is covered.
